Dubai Culture Unveils Two Striking Murals in Al Quoz Creative Zone

Dubai’s vibrant art scene continues to evolve as the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) unveils two captivating murals in the Al Quoz Creative Zone, part of the ambitious Dubai Public Art Strategy. Designed to transform the emirate into an open-air art gallery, this initiative showcases the city’s growing role as a global cultural hub, an incubator for creativity, and a thriving hub for artistic talent.

These newly unveiled works reflect the diverse character of Al Quoz, a district known for its industrial grit, creative energy, and dynamic blend of cultures. By integrating large-scale art into public spaces, Dubai Culture is creating memorable cultural landmarks while reinforcing Al Quoz’s status as a home for artists, designers, and creative entrepreneurs from across the globe.

Celebrating the Spirit of Al Quoz Through Art

The murals showcase the work of three talented female artists, each bringing a distinctive perspective and artistic language to the district’s evolving identity. Together, their creations celebrate the vitality, traditions, and community spirit of Al Quoz, capturing its transformation into a creative hub.

‘Vibrant Voices of Al Quoz’ by Rabab Tantawy

Egyptian visual artist and muralist Rabab Tantawy brings Al Quoz’s bustling energy to life with her striking mural, “Vibrant Voices of Al Quoz”. Painted on the façade of Aramtec, the artwork celebrates the neighbourhood’s cultural identity through a lively collage of imagery.

Spice stalls, ornate lanterns, and traditional Arabic coffee pots weave together alongside architectural elements such as arches and domes, reflecting the district’s layered history and diverse influences. Through bold compositions and vivid colours, Tantawy transforms the wall into a visual celebration of community, heritage, and creativity.

Hend Al Murid ‘Wonder Windows’

Across the district, Emirati artist Hend Al Murid and Syrian muralist Dina Saadi have collaborated on “Wonder Windows”, a large-scale piece adorning the façade of WooHoo, Dubai’s interactive children’s museum.

Inviting visitors on a whimsical journey of discovery, the mural integrates symbols deeply rooted in Emirati culture, including the Hudhud bird, the dalla (traditional coffee pot), and intricate ornamental motifs. Childhood memories and playful narratives merge within the composition, creating an artwork that celebrates curiosity, imagination, and connection.

A Vision for Dubai’s Creative Future

Commenting on the initiative, Shaima Rashid Al Suwaidi, CEO of the Arts, Design & Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, emphasised the significance of the Dubai Public Art Strategy in shaping the emirate’s cultural landscape:

“The murals are a welcome addition to the Al Quoz Creative Zone, an area known for sparking fresh ideas and giving young talent the space to realise their ambitions. Dubai Culture remains committed to fostering creativity and encouraging artists to capture the spirit of the UAE in their own unique ways.”

This vision is echoed by Mozah Lootah, Dubai Public Art Project Manager, who highlights the role of public art in creating interactive dialogue between artists and audiences:

“The Dubai Public Art Strategy provides a framework to support and empower local creatives, enabling them to express their perspectives by turning our neighbourhoods, squares, and public spaces into cultural destinations.”

Al Quoz: Dubai’s Thriving Creative Hub

Once known primarily as an industrial district, Al Quoz has rapidly transformed into Dubai’s creative heartland. Its galleries, design studios, and cultural spaces make it a natural setting for projects like these murals, which enhance the area’s identity while contributing to Dubai’s global cultural reputation.

By activating public spaces through art, Dubai Culture is inviting residents and visitors alike to experience the city in new ways. The murals not only enrich the district’s visual landscape but also reflect Dubai’s ambition to become a leading destination for art, culture, and design.
